To most people, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi seems to be just one man of many who helped India gain independence. But he's much more than that. He's helped people all over the world gain freedom by showing that we can achieve much more than we hope for by being nonviolent. As he once said, "In this age of wonders no one will say that a thing or an idea is worthless because it is new. To say it is impossible because it is difficult, is again not in consonance with the spirit of the age. Things undreamt of are daily becoming possible We are constantly astonished these days at the amazing discoveries in the field of violence. But I maintain that far more undreamt of and seemingly impossible discoveries will be made in the field of nonviolence." And this turned out to be true. Through nonviolence, India gained independence, African-Americans gained equal rights as other people, and farmers had their work conditions improved. These people and more were influenced by Mahatma Gandhi to use nonviolence to get to their goal.
